The lobby redesign at One Columbus Circle was driven largely by the need to brighten the space. Previously, the lobby felt dark and uninviting, even during the day, due to factors like limited sunlight and dark architectural finishes. To help solve this, One Lux Studio designed a custom system of illuminated 18-inch-tall baffles at the lobby’s ceiling, which combines with additional carefully hidden light layers to create depth and visual interest. The elevator vestibule was illuminated with two layers of LEDs built into a technical slot to illuminate the wood panels between each elevator. One Lux Studio’s lighting solution more than compensates for the lack of natural lighting, elevating this transitional space above and beyond the average treatment of a corporate lobby. The resulting design offers a refined yet captivating experience for both guests and passersby on the street.
