The Metro Theatre in San Francisco, originally built in 1924, was a first-run art deco movie theatre and home to the San Francisco Film Festival. After closing in 2006 due to a change in ownership, new life was breathed into the theater as it was conceived to become an Equinox Sports Club. As part of the development, many of the historic features inside of the venue had to be preserved – murals, columns, urns, as well as the exterior, which was designated landmark in 2008. The lighting design set out to capture the essence of the building and its history, all while enhancing the art deco character, features, materials and color palette.
